The trip is the people. Talk to them.

Your host, the pharmacist, the taxi driver. Same sentence, two phones: the translator you already have on the left, Glossia on the right. Pick a moment and watch.

Pausing mid-sentence · in the press
Google is reportedly building a “Smart assist” mode because Translate currently takes “every clumsy ‘um,’ ‘ah,’ or stumbled phrase literally.”

Short phrases, passed phones · in the press
A reviewer abroad in Japan found Translate did the job “one sentence or phrase at a time,” with “a lot of back and forth, passing phones between participants.”

Private by design

You're a stranger here. Your conversations shouldn't be anyone's.

Messages are encrypted on the way and while they wait for delivery, then deleted the moment they arrive. Notifications never show your words. Your voice is never recorded. Conversations you save stay on your phone, and you can turn saving off. Block or report anyone, anytime.

Our server reads each message only to translate it, so messages are not end-to-end encrypted. We'd rather say so.

Questions

Before you pack it.

Not at the counter: one phone on the table, only you need Glossia. For calls and messages they need Glossia too, on the free plan.

It’s great for short phrases, menus and offline. Glossia is for real conversations: long ones, on calls and in messages, between any two phones.

No, it needs a connection. A normal 4G signal is enough. For signs and menus, keep your camera translator.

iPhone XS or newer (iOS 17), Android 9 or newer. iPhone and Android work together.

No. Audio is interpreted live and never kept.

Yes, on the way and on our server, and deleted once delivered. Our server reads each message only to translate it, so they’re not end-to-end encrypted.

As text, yes. A spoken Cantonese voice isn’t available yet. The other 59 languages are spoken.
